02 Sep Switching Gears
Seems like everyone is gearing up for first day of school, or first day of teaching, or first day of fall. It’s transition time for me also, as a writer. Switching gears from just writing to writing and speaking. Clubs are starting up and groups are meeting. And I’m getting some great invitations to speak about writing and/or about my book.
September 10th, 7:00 p.m.: Lynn’s Book Club. The ladies have read my book, so it will be mostly Q&A. Fun!
Tuesday, September 15th, 1:00: The Fine Arts Club of Fargo. A 40 minute presentation to about 40 women. Tea & Talk.
Tuesday, September 22nd, PEO. Several of the local chapters of women are getting together. Most of them don’t know my book from beans, I’m guessing. So I’ll do a more formal presentation: who, what, when, where, why. Maybe. Gotta add some fun in: a little Zambian music and some photos.
Monday, October 19, 7:00 p.m.: Valley City Barnes County Public Library Author Event. Most likely a cross-section of folks who’ve read the book and folks who haven’t and people who knew my mom or dad forty years ago. Coffee & cookies to follow.
And this: May 16, 2016: Moorhead Retired Teachers Association. 2016. That is not a typo. Crazy. I have no idea what I will be doing in May of 2016! Well, except that I’ll be speaking to the retired teachers.
I’m not sure why I’m blogging this. It’s not at all exceptional. Maybe that’s the point. When you are a writer and an author, you are often asked to become a speaker. It’s a rather strange coexistence. And oddly enough, it’s not one that I seem to mind. Maybe getting out and speaking is just the fresh air I need, so when I get home, I’m ready to get back to the writing.
If you’d like a speaker for your club, or know someone else who might…let me know. I’m all geared up!
