Pubublication Acknowlegement Page

So Many Africas has 33 chapters. Seven of the chapters have already been published (as essays in a slightly different form) in various literary journals.

The Acknowledgement of Publication Page is the place to thank and acknowledge the literary journals and editors who first published my work. Lit. journals and their editors are often not paid at all or highly underpaid. They do their work out of love for words. I want to thank those who believed in my writing before it came together as a book.

The journals include the following:
Apalachee Review
Dust & Fire: Writing & Art by Women
Relief Journal
River Teeth
The Gettysburg Review
Under the Sun

After being published, two of my essays were also chosen to be republished in book-length anthologies.

Becoming: What Makes a Woman, (U. of Nebraska Press) editor Jill McCabe Johnson.
The Best Spiritual Writing 2012, (Penguin Books) editor Philip Zaleski.

It’s fun to watch writing travel. From journal, to anthology, and now finally to a full book.
I am grateful to each journal, editor, and press.

It’s impossible, which is why I’m imagining it. What if we could see everywhere your writing actually travels? The journals, the people who read the journals. The people who told their students to read a copy of those journals.

You call it your sassy child. Funny how like a child, it stays with you while it grows up. Then it leaves. Goes places. Does things. Things you didn’t expect, though it’s your child.

Weird thoughts from little old me.

Great thoughts, Gianna. We send our writing out into the world and it goes its own way. Sometimes I blow it a kiss and wish it well.
