Yes, pictures do help tell a story. But I still love how my imagination filled in the details by your writing alone! That’s just how powerful your narrative was – still living with those “characters” in my imagination.

Thank you, Julie! It makes me happy that you found the narrative itself powerful enough to be vivid in your imagination. That is what writing should do … paint a picture. Horace said, “A picture is a poem without words.” So maybe, a poem is a picture with words.

As a serious animal lover, I teared up when I saw the picture of Lasso. When I lived on a farm as a young girl, animals coming and going, dying, etc, was the way it was. Now, years away from the farm, I get emotional with any sad animal story. In 2006 when I was reading Marley and Me with Hailey, I had difficulty finishing the last pages without crying. I cried for Lasso too.

Me, too, Lila. I loved that dog. She was a good friend. I’m so glad I have a couple great pictures of her and Kristina together. Dog stories always get me.

My daughter is in Lusaka, Zambia working in a HIV research project through Emory University. I got visit her and her Kenyan husband, Sunday Otieno, over Christmas holiday in Kisimu, Kenya. Love him! She and I were surprised that I didn’t suffer more from culture shock and grief. My husband died last July. My daughter’s life choices have opened my world emensely.
I will get your book soon.

Hi Ruth, it’s a wonderful world with so many experiences in it! Lovely that you were able to go to Kenya and visit family. Thanks for your interest in my book; I’d be glad to send a signed copy if you want to order it directly from me. Otherwise it’s on Kindle and at Amazon, too.
