Collegeville 2017 with Lauren Winner
Each year Collegeville Institute hosts a summer full of writing workshops. It’s tough to get in. I applied two years ago. Nope. Only twelve writers, from across the United States and Canada, are accepted to each ten day workshop. All expenses paid.
This year, Lauren Winner is teaching a workshop entitled, “Revision, Christian Spirituality, and the Writing Life.” She’s asking for writers who have full length manuscripts ready to go. It looked fabulous and I spent a week filling in, tweaking and rewriting the requested forms: Curriculum Vitae, Precis, Application, What Interests Me in the Workshop, Writing Samples, Something About Myself. And then, per usual, I waited. And waited. To hear back.
I just received an email … I’m going to Collegeville 2017!!
I’m so grateful! The email was a real boost to my writing. I ordered Lauren’s book Mudhouse Sabbath which is full of sage teachings on places where Christians can learn from Jewish traditions. And I got her newest book (I love the title!) Wearing God: Clothing, Laughter, Fire, and Other Overlooked Ways of Meeting God. Lauren teaches at Duke Divinity School. What a joy to be able to sit under her teaching.
Since the class is focusing on full-length manuscripts, my goal is to have my manuscript ready to take to Collegeville. It’s about 80 – 90% complete. So I know what I am going to be doing the next three months! Collegeville prep here I come!
This year, Collegeville is turning 50. Since 1967, Collegeville Institute has been “exploring faith, igniting imagination, and renewing community.” And now, they are celebrating. I love learning about writing. Thank you, Collegeville, for giving me this opportunity!
Happy 50th!! I’m glad to be celebrating with you.
